Why Choose an Air Source Heat Pump?
-
Incredible efficiency
These systems can be over 300% more efficient than traditional gas boilers, which may lead to noticeable savings on your heating bills.
-
Lower your carbon footprint
Reduce your home's emissions by around 13% each year—the equivalent of cutting out a round-trip flight from London to Perth.
-
Reliable performance, even in extreme cold
Designed to operate in temperatures as low as -25°C, they’re built for the British winter.
-
Minimal upkeep, long lifespan
With a typical lifespan of 15 years or more, heat pumps require little maintenance and offer long-term peace of mind.
-
Backed by government funding
Most households are eligible for a £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, making it even more affordable to switch.
How much does an air source heat pump cost?
The cost of installing an air source heat pump can vary depending on your home’s size and heating needs. But thanks to government support available across Great Britain, making the switch is more affordable than you might think. With grants like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which can knock up to £7,500 off the upfront price, your out-of-pocket costs could range from as low as £3,680 to £10,000.
Here’s a typical cost breakdown by home type (after grant applied):
2 bed bungalow
Average installed cost: £4,600

Government Grants for Heat Pumps – Updated May 2024

Is an Air Source Heat Pump Right for My Home?
In many cases—yes! Most homes across the UK are suitable for an air source heat pump, but a few property upgrades may be needed to get the best performance.
These could include improving insulation, upgrading radiators, or adjusting internal pipework. But don’t worry—our expert installers will assess everything in advance and will only recommend a system that’s guaranteed to keep your home warm and comfortable.
Installation Requirements – What You’ll Need
To ensure your heat pump performs efficiently and qualifies for funding, your home will need to meet a few basic criteria:
You own the property
(Includes main homes, holiday lets, and some small business properties).
Outdoor space available
Approx. 2m x 1m is required for the external unit—must be at least 1 metre from boundary walls.
Room for a hot water cylinder
(This is required for the most efficient heating setup).
Good insulation
Cavity wall and loft insulation are key to efficient performance and grant eligibility.
Still unsure if your home is a good fit?
What Will My Air Source Heat
Pump Look Like?
When you choose a heat pump from Greentech Heating Solutions, you’re getting top-quality technology from trusted brands like Ideal Heating—a company with over 100 years of experience in home heating innovation. Their low-carbon systems are designed to perform efficiently, reduce emissions, and integrate seamlessly into modern homes.
What to Expect with Your Installation
Every home will have an outdoor heat pump unit, with some properties also requiring an indoor component. Here’s a quick overview of what the setup might include:
Outdoor Unit
Typically installed at the side or rear of your home, this unit resembles a large fan box. It quietly draws in air and extracts heat—even on cold days.
Indoor Unit (if required)
In some systems, a compact indoor component is paired with the outdoor unit to manage heat distribution and efficiency.
Hot Water Cylinder
All systems will include a dedicated hot water tank, usually installed in a utility room, airing cupboard, or loft space.

Important Information & Assumptions
Pricing and Grant Assumptions
- The £3,680 starting price reflects the £7,500 government grant (Boiler Upgrade Scheme) and is based on our lowest-cost heat pump and hot water cylinder, excluding any radiator or pipework upgrades.
- Your final price will vary depending on your home’s layout, heating demand, and installation requirements. We’ll always provide a tailored quote following your free home survey.
Energy Savings Estimate
A typical customer could save up to £360 per year compared to the standard single-
rate energy tariff. Breakdown:
- £164/year: Based on using 2,700 kWh of electricity via a heat pump (with a Coefficient of Performance (CoP) of 3.1) to provide the same heat output as a 94% efficient gas boiler using 11,500 kWh of gas.
- £196/year: From avoiding the electricity standing charge (based on Q2 2024 Ofgem price cap, regional average).
- Total estimated annual savings: £360.
- Actual savings depend on your current system and tariff. To check the performance of
your system, visit the MCS Product Directory.
Carbon Reduction Estimates
- Replacing a standard A-rated gas boiler with an air source heat pump in a typical 3- bedroom semi-detached home (with radiator upgrades) can reduce household CO₂ emissions by approximately 13.4%.
- Based on data from the Energy Saving Trust and ONS:
- Average emissions: 6 tonnes CO₂ per person × 2.36 people = 14.16 tonnes CO₂ per household
- Typical saving: 1.9 tonnes CO₂ annually → 13.4% reduction
- For perspective, this is roughly equivalent to the emissions from a return economy flight from London to Perth(1.826 tonnes CO₂). Source: British Airways Carbon Calculator.
